Virgil Security Advances as Best Tech Startup Finalist in Washington DC’s 2018 Timmy Awards

Rebecca Yarbrough — September 14th, 2018

Tech in Motion announces top 10 local tech companies and opens public voting to determine winners.

Tech in Motion DC has chosen Virgil Security, Inc. as a finalist for this year’s Best Tech Startup category as it prepares for the fourth Annual Timmy Awards, which recognizes the top workplaces for tech professionals in the Washington DC area. Virgil Security joins an elite list of this year’s finalists, including: Social Tables, Upskill, and Mapbox.

50% of the award decision is based on public voting, so vote for us through October 3rd at this link.

In 2014, Dmitry Dain and Michael W. Wellman founded Virgil Security to deliver software-based cryptographic building blocks to developers so that they can quickly and easily add security features like end-to-end encryption and breach-proof password protection to their products. With our open source SDKs and crypto library, Virgil makes every software developer an applied cryptologist.

Today over 860 companies are building over 1200 solutions using Virgil's technologies, from scaling startups to large enterprises.

Customers and partners include Google's Firebase, Twilio, Nexmo, and PubNub in Cloud Messaging; Intel in chips and IoT; Soraa in IoT; Wave Mobile Solutions in Intelligent Transportation Systems, Connected Cars and Smart Cities; Hushed and Cloakroom in Secure Messaging; and Yubico in Security.

“By providing software building blocks to other product developers, our team sees the future as it's being invented. On a daily basis, we support companies working on healthcare solutions, financial products, chat apps and industrial IoT systems that impact tens of millions of people.

Product teams that previously didn’t have the resources to protect their application data can now use our tools to implement end-to-end encryption and make their user passwords breach-proof and still ship on time.

Lots of companies say that you don't know what you'll be working on from one month to the next, but at Virgil Security we are literally helping to shape the technologies and products of hundreds of companies and laying the foundation of a secure future for the entire world," says to Virgil Security co-founder Michael M. Wellman.

“It is an honor to celebrate the companies who are striving to better the lives and workplaces of their tech teams,” says Mandy Walker, Director of Marketing at Tech in Motion. “As the event series grows each year, we are excited to celebrate the diversity, innovation and growth in the community – which we recognize is represented by these finalists whether or not they walk home with an award.”

Washington DC’s local community has a chance to get involved by voting online now through October 3rd to help determine which company will be crowned the best in tech. Winners will be chosen by a panel of expert judges and communal votes. The complete list of Washington DC’s 2018 Timmy Awards finalists can be found here.
